Each month, Defying Gravity School of Dance proudly recognizes one dancer who goes above and beyond both inside and outside the studio. Our Student of the Month demonstrates dedication, a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a love for dance that inspires others. This recognition celebrates not only their growth in technique and performance, but also their teamwork, respect, and commitment to the Defying Gravity community.
Michaela Fox has been dancing since she was just two years old and is now celebrating her fourth year with the DGRI family! While she has explored many movements, Acro and Jazz have captured her heart as her absolute favorite styles.
She finds inspiration everywhere she looks, citing the entire DGRI staff as her role models, along with Kenzie Ziegler from Dance Moms. Their leadership and talent push her to reach for her own dreams every time she steps onto the floor.
What keeps Michaela motivated, even on the toughest days, is her DGRI team. Being surrounded by her dance family gives her the energy and excitement to keep working hard and pushing herself forward.
Michaela is especially proud of mastering her side aerial—a huge technical milestone! But she isn’t stopping there; her big goal for this year is to conquer her front aerial through dedicated practice and strength.
In class, her favorite song to move to right now is “Gabriella.” To prepare for the spotlight, Michaela keeps it focused and professional—her pre-performance ritual is to practice her dance backstage until she feels confident and ready to shine.
Looking ahead, Michaela’s love for this studio runs deep. She sees dance taking her all the way to the front of the classroom, with the goal of one day becoming a staff member at DGRI to inspire the next generation of dancers.
